Press Release:
Structuring and Centralizing Anatomic Pathology Data Factory Through Artificial Intelligence:
Institut de Cancérologie de l’Ouest (ICO- Comprehensive Cancer Center Nantes-Angers, France) and Connect by Circular-Lab Collaborate on the AI-Driven Diagnostic Data
Monitoring Platform: C-LAB
March 2024
Connect by Circular–Lab (Circular-Lab) and Institut de Cancérologie de l’Ouest (ICO – Comprehensive Cancer Center Nantes – Angers, France) announce a strategic partnership to collaborate on the extraction, structuring and centralization of reported pathology data, leveraging AI-based C-LAB platform, unveiling first pilot results.
In the realm of pathology, the lack of standardized reporting has been a persistent challenge, leading to significant discrepancies in laboratory reports. Pathologists, even within the same lab, can produce reports with varying structures and content, impacting the accessibility and reliability of testing data. Circular-Lab, a pioneer in diagnostic RWD/RWEs innovation, is addressing this issue with a groundbreaking AI-driven platform called C-LAB, designed to extract, structure, and monitor reported testing data, connecting stakeholders in the diagnostic chain.
«Pathology reporting lack of harmonization and structure has long been a hurdle in diagnostics digitization and patient care, as it creates difficulties to enable an integrated patient management by clinicians. C-LAB platform is a transformative solution, providing labs with the tools to improve their operational efficiency, streamline and harmonize their testing data, ultimately enhancing the quality of testing and patient treatment,» says Maria Fe Paz, Circular-Lab’s CEO.
C-LAB digitizes, extracts, centralizes, and structures diagnostic and biomarker testing data from both structured and unstructured anatomic pathology reports in real-time, allowing prospective and retrospective data monitoring and actionability. By offering a unified and automated approach, the platform not only enables labs to access their data more efficiently but also facilitates real-world evidence generation, supporting drug efficacy assessments and post-market surveillance.
«C-LAB represents a significant step forward in the digitalization of oncology data. This initial partnership could leverage C-LAB cutting-edge technology to extract and structure key diagnostic and biomarker data, and could contribute to improved patient diagnostics and treatment,» states Guillaume Mercusot, Head of the Development and Innovation Department at ICO.
In a recent pilot project, ICO, after benchmarking different actors in the field of AI and data extraction, selected Circular-Lab’s technology to extract, digitize, centralize, and structure diagnostic and biomarker data from more than 2,000 anonymized pathology reports of 487 breast cancer patients. The results, compared with the national structured databases national ESMÉ database, demonstrated promising advancements in routine practice monitoring and great perspective toward digitalization and structuring of data factories.
“By implementing advanced data structuring technologies, we are empowering ICO to unlock a wealth of insights from their diagnostic data. This structured approach not only streamlines routine practice monitoring but also opens avenues for personalized medicine, accelerates research endeavors, and fundamentally transforms the landscape of cancer diagnostics. Our aim is to empower ICO to make data-driven decisions that will have a lasting impact on patient outcomes and contribute to the advancement of precision medicine.” explains Camille Garnier, VP at Circular-Lab.
The Institut de Cancérologie de l’Ouest (ICO), a leading Unicancer center in France, has been actively engaged in supporting the digitalization of oncology data. Launched in 2014 by Unicancer R&D and supported by all French Comprehensive Cancer Centres (FCCCs), the ESMÉ (“Épidémio-Stratégie Médico-Economique”) programme, an independent academic initiative, aims to centralize the real-world datas of patients treated for cancer in France. The collaboration with Circular-Lab aligns with ICO’s commitment to advancing patient diagnostics, treatment, and research studies.
C-LAB intelligent platform empowers labs to take control of their testing data, promoting enhanced data quality, structured data factories, and seamless connectivity between all parties within the diagnostic chain. Beyond the realm of diagnostics, the platform holds the potential to expedite external quality controls, accreditation processes, and integration into lab workflows for real-time access to real-world data.
Circular-Lab and ICO are optimistic about the broader implications of their partnership, anticipating a transformative impact on clinical research, care, and the overall landscape of diagnostic data management.
